We asked our Founding Board for advice about campus life. Here are their answers:
Tyler Bee:“Sometimes college will be stressful, but try to make the best out of the situation. When you look back on your college memories you don’t think about the good grades you got, you think about the fun memories you made with your friends. ”
Angie Fan: “Take some time and really get to know yourself and what you're passionate about. You always have the option to choose your own path. I had an interest in both Business and Chemistry which are seemingly different from each other, but rather than focusing on one subject, I found a way to connect the two and pursue an internship that allowed me to explore both. When you're in college, there really are no limits to your freedom and you have every right to try everything that seems interesting to you.”
Kent Lui: “ASIB is a great way to learn more about the A/PIA community on-campus. My advice is to pursue all the things that interest you during your undergraduate years, including research, student orgs, study abroad, etc.”
Andrew Mei: “Enjoy your time while on campus - college is truly one of the greatest life experiences and you don't want to spend the entire time studying. Strike a balance between working hard and having fun. You have your entire life to work hard, but only during college can you take greater risks, find your passions, and have one of the greatest four year periods in your life.
Becky Quach: “My advice would be to view everything as an opportunity and utilize the resources available to you as MUCH as possible. I'm sure you've heard it a lot but your network is one of your biggest assets that needs to be tapped into. Through umich I was able to connect with a lot of alumni for informational interviews and it helped me a lot to not only get my name out there to companies but also understand the roles and companies I was getting myself into. There were many cases where I thought a company was my "dream company" only to find out through the informational interview that it wouldn't be a match. Remember, you are interviewing companies just as much as they are interviewing you!”
Chithrini Sivashankar: “Have an open mind with your career and focus more on learning about things that interest you rather than committing to one path and focusing on gaining experience in only that.”
Langsi Wu: “Prioritize the friendships and memories you make in college! There're so many more roles and industries out there than what's popular to pursue in Ross - there's a lot of time to explore what you love to do.”
Connie You: “Go to events whenever you can, and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation! Everyone is super welcoming, and you never know what new friends you may meet.”
